Synopsis
Assets under management (AUM) of index funds increased from Rs 5,300 crore in April 2019 to Rs 54,737 crore in February 2022. AUM of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and equity ETFs jumped by more than 300% and 195% to touch Rs 18,728 crore and Rs 3,91,436 crore, respectively, during the period. Monthly net inflows in these product categories vary between Rs 1,500 crore and Rs 2,500 crore.
Mumbai: Passive investment strategies, which involve putting money into index or exchange-traded funds, are gaining popularity among investors who want to eliminate the risks of stock picking in a volatile market. The lower asset management fees on these products make them attractive to cost-conscious savers. Additionally, global investors are taking this route to gain exposure to Indian equities.
