More details were released of a traffic incident on Friday night on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids.
According to a press release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, officers responded to a call from a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Freeway 100 near I-380 just after 11:30 p.m. on Friday evening, June 18.
When officers arrived, they found a man on Westbound Hwy 100 above Southbound Hwy 380.
The man who was struck received medical attention from first responders and was taken to UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. The man, Jason M. Lafler, 26, of Cedar Rapids, was pronounced dead in hospital.
Christopher L. Christensen, 37, was driving a 2003 Ford Fusion when he collided with Lafler. Lafler and a passenger were both taken to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids where they were treated and released.
Cedar Rapids Police said based on a preliminary investigation by accident reconstruction specialists they believed Lafler was in the busy part of the road at the time of the incident. No charge is pending.
